Mayor is dreaming
Re “Defeating homelessness,” Opinion, April 12
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Op-Ed article on defeating homelessness only reinforces the idea that government is unable to spend taxpayer money efficiently.
A billion dollars buys only 1,500 units of housing? That’s more than $660,000 per housing unit. Rent subsidy and rehabilitation services get thrown in with this figure, but how much does it really cost to get people off the streets? Maybe City Controller Laura Chick needs to take a peek at the books.
