Boy, 3, drowns in home pool; brother critical
A 3-year-old boy died Sunday and his 5-year-old brother was in extremely critical condition after a swimming pool accident at their home in Walnut Park, officials said.
Family members, who began looking for the boys after they were missing for 20 minutes, found them after 1:20 p.m. Saturday in the pool behind their house in the 2400 block of Olive Street.
Their father tried to resuscitate them, and paramedics rushed the brothers to the hospital. The younger boy, Jonathan Verdugo, was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
The older boy, whose name was not released, remained hospitalized late Sunday.
Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department classified the death as an accidental drowning.
