You might say that actress Regina King is the queen of spouse roles. She played Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr.’s better half in “Jerry Maguire,” Will Smith’s loyal wife in “Enemy of the State” and Eddie Murphy’s betrothed in “Daddy Day Care.” (She can also be seen this season on “24” as Sandra Palmer, the U.S. president’s sister.)

But in the current film “Year of the Dog” she plays Molly Shannon’s eagerly eligible pal. She’s likewise single in real life, living in the Angeles Crest foothills with her son from a previous marriage, but all she’s eager for at the moment is a relaxing weekend.

Feeling ritzy

On a Friday afternoon I’d pick up my niece and my son from school and buzz by Yuca’s Tacos in Los Feliz. But first of all, if you’re going there you can’t be one of these vegan-eating persons. You’ve got to be into meat and potatoes, because the carne asada tacos and burritos are to die for.

Then, although I don’t have a nanny, since this is my ideal weekend, a nanny would appear from nowhere and we’d go to the Ritz-Carlton in Pasadena and get two suites -- one for me and one for the kids and the nanny. I might go check out the restaurant and lounge downstairs because they’re so nice, but otherwise it might just be room service for all of us, and then I’d get a great night’s sleep.

Train for tonight

On Saturday morning I’d get up and go to the Equinox Fitness Club in Paseo Colorado. They have a great kickboxing class that I like, and I’d also jump rope and do some weight training. Then I’d go to the Amadeus Spa and get a five-hour rejuvenator package. It’s the works -- manicure, pedicure, body scrub, massage, and they also serve you lunch. But the best thing of all is the Vichy Shower; it’s like lying naked in a warm rain. It’s delicious.

And I’d be drinking a lot of water to offset the wine I’d be drinking later at the Arroyo Chop House. It’s beautiful there, and Nancy the pianist is incredible. I really like the great jazz songs. I’d be drinking their wine with either a butterfly-cut filet mignon served medium, or depending on how hard I hit the gym, I’d have the Kobe beef burger with short ribs. Mmmm, yeah. And, oh my God, they have the absolute best chocolate pecan pie I’ve ever tasted in my 36 years of living. Usually my son and I share it, but on this weekend we’d get our own. It comes with mocha ice cream, but I like it better with vanilla.

After dinner, in a perfect world, I’d be going to the Greek Theatre and seeing Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend, and maybe throw John Mayer in there too. Oh, and Keith Jarrett would be performing too.

Ah, that would be the ultimate.

And after that, I’d retire to my grand suite at the Ritz.

Yay. Rah. Rah.

On Sunday we’d get up and go to the hotel’s fabulous brunch and then go back and watch football all day. Or maybe later we’d catch a Lakers game at Staples. Believe me, I’m the biggest Lakers fan you’ve ever met. Then we’d head to Chinatown for some slippery shrimp at Yang Chow. That’s the go-to dish there; it’s just delicious.

This might not sound like the most exciting weekend, but to me it would be just the greatest.
