Matt Carle and Mike Grier scored midway through the first period and Evgeni Nabokov made 34 saves to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 2-0 victory over the Red Wings on Thursday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals at Detroit.
The Sharks, winners of a league-high and franchise-record 26 road games, seemed right at home in Detroit, scoring goals 24 seconds apart.
Game 2 is Saturday at Detroit.
Ottawa 5, New Jersey 4 -- Jason Spezza scored 90 seconds into the game, and the Senators jumped to a 4-0 first-period lead and held on to defeat the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.
