A healthy laugh

Joel Pett is the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist of the Lexington Herald-Leader. His work also appears in USA Today.

On the medical front, there’s lots of operating room for cartoonists. FDA regulation of tobacco, new studies about pot (surprise! ... not good for your lungs!) and sex (news flash! ... we do it because “it feels good”). Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales’ bedside manner and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.’s seizure produced a few pen strokes. Pat Oliphant used Dubya’s physical to kick some patootie, and Tom Toles took a heartless crack at the veep. But Mike Luckovich delivered the most trenchant twist, spinning a ho-hum report on obesity into a moving commentary on global hunger. I could have thought of that, but I got distracted by a quirky med-lit blurb on those new eyeball tattoos.
