‘Talent,’ ‘Bee’ boost NBC

NBC’s Tuesday night duo of “America’s Got Talent” and “The Singing Bee” notched its second consecutive 1-2 finish among prime-time programs, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

“America’s Got Talent’s” 90-minute performance show featuring the final 10 contestants drew 10.76 million viewers, making it the most-watched prime-time program between July 30 and Sunday. The audience was 9% larger than on July 24, and 4% larger than the 10.38 million who tuned in for the July 17 episode.

“America’s Got Talent” has been television’s most-watched program for six of the last nine weeks. NBC announced Monday that it was renewing the show.

The week’s only premiere on the five major English-language broadcast networks, the ABC anthology show “Masters of Science Fiction,” was second in Saturday’s 10-11 p.m. time slot and 92nd for the week with 2.73 million viewers.

With five of its reruns among the week’s 10 most watched programs, CBS was the most-watched network in prime time for the ninth time in the 10 weeks of television’s summer season, averaging 6.48 million viewers.

The TNT police drama “The Closer” was the week’s most-watched program on cable television with 7.67 million viewers.
