A San Fernando Valley man is recuperating from the first human case of West Nile virus reported in the county this year, officials said Thursday.

The unidentified man was briefly hospitalized with West Nile meningitis after reporting a fever, headache and fatigue last month.

The virus, which is transmitted through mosquito bites, has been detected in nine dead birds and 14 mosquito pools in Los Angeles County, most of them in the Valley.
