Death of a system

Re “Do not resuscitate,” editorial, Aug. 15

It is shame that a hospital in such a needy neighborhood should face closure. I think all that was needed was a sincere effort by all involved to do their best. What adds insult to injury in this whole drama of incompetence is that we can waste trillions on a useless war but cannot sustain institutions like Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital.

That this institution bears the name of one of our great leaders is another matter of disgrace for all of us. In this whole episode, I do not see the death of a hospital but the death of a system, and that is even more worrisome.
