* at Cleveland 5, Detroit 2: Fausto Carmona (14-7) struck out a career-high 10 to help the Indians move back into a first-place tie with the Tigers atop the AL Central.

* Baltimore 6, at New York 3: Miguel Tejada hit a tiebreaking double off Mariano Rivera in the 10th inning and Aubrey Huff added a two-run homer to help lift the Orioles.

* Tampa Bay 6, at Boston 5: Al Reyes struck out Manny Ramirez with two on for the final out, helping Andy Sonnanstine (2-8) end an eight-game losing streak. Carlos Pena had three RBIs.

* at Oakland 3, Chicago 2: Mike Piazza, moved down a spot to fifth in the order, broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the fourth inning and Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run homer for the A’s.

* at Texas 4, Kansas City 3: Michael Young hit a two-run double and Ian Kinsler homered for the Rangers. The Royals’ Gil Meche (7-11) lost his fifth straight start.

* Minnesota 6, at Seattle 1: Torii Hunter hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and a grand slam in the ninth for the Twins. It was Hunter’s ninth grand slam.

* at Toronto 2, Angels 1: The Angels stole two more bases, adding to their AL-leading total of 111 in the loss. They have been caught an AL-high 41 times.
