A golden evening for charity causes

Share

Past Golden Globes winners piled into the Beverly Hills Hotel on Aug. 9 at the behest of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. But this time, the actors picked up more than $1.2 million worth of checks for film-related schools and nonprofits, not trophies. 4. Eva Mendes blew bisous to admirers at the installation luncheon, while 5. Marc Anthony kissed up to wife Jennifer Lopez during their grant presentation, praising her teleprompter reading skills. 6. Josh Brolin, with the FilmAid International moolah, puckered up for Jamie Foxx, but the “Ray” star made it clear that his sights were set on the lasses at his table, 7. Charlize Theron, left, and Hilary Swank. Also providing laughs: Christine Lahti, who lamented that she has yet to live down her Golden Globes moment. “All they asked was if I was going to go to the ladies room!” she joked of reporters on the red carpet.

Bet they didn’t end it at 11

Even the vodka was green at “The 11th Hour” premiere after-party at the Cabana Club on Aug. 8 -- thankfully not in color, but in spirits, as the Icelandic alcohol, Reyka, is filtered through lava rocks. Proceeds benefited Global Green USA and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Producer and narrator 9. Leonardo DiCaprio partied with proud mom Irmelin and pals Tobey Maguire and Lukas Haas, while 10. Kate Bosworth met up with her buddy Nadia Conners, who co-directed the documentary with sister Leila Conners Petersen.

Fun and fund-raising in the surf

David HASSELHOFF 1. donned a pair of red swim trunks on the beach in Malibu on Aug. 5, but this was no “Baywatch” reunion special. Instead, he dived right into teaching a surfing lesson to kids from the Chance for Children Foundation, which gives the less fortunate a fun-in-the-sun experience. Also giving back in the ‘Bu: 2. Rachel Griffiths, who paddle surfed on Aug. 4 at the Path of Purpose premiere party at Paradise Cove, which raised money for autism charities, National Autism Foundation and Beautiful Son. On July 29, 3. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson cheered on his daughter, Simone Alexandra, as she completed an obstacle course at the Malibu Pier to benefit the Rock Foundation, which helps kids coping with serious illnesses. Now that’s a ‘Bu-tiful thing!

Women rock..... and paint..... and drink wine

About 300 guests packed into the Whole 9 Gallery in Culver City on Aug. 11 to celebrate the female form at the Women Rock opening reception party. Former supermodel 8. Denice Lewis, left, with fellow artist Sevode Lewis, struck a pose in front of Rose Masterpol’s female nude painting, which appeared in “Ocean’s Thirteen.” Not as mainstream: Denice Lewis’ “tribute” pieces, which she creates using the ashes of loved ones. All artists participating in the exhibit, on display through Sept. 29, belong to TheWhole9.com, dubbed a MySpace for creative adults.
