-Chicago 5, at San Francisco 1: Playing for the first time in nine days after his father’s death, Cliff Floyd hit a go-ahead two-run single in the Cubs’ five-run ninth inning. Tim Lincecum (7-4) was three outs from his first career complete game when the Cubs finally got to the rookie right-hander.

-at St. Louis 5, Florida 2: Albert Pujols homered for the fourth straight game and the Cardinals scored four times in the eighth inning to hand the Marlins their season-worst seventh straight loss. Yadier Molina drove in the tying run in the eighth, when St. Louis was aided by two crucial errors.

-at Colorado 9, Pittsburgh 2: Ian Stewart hit a third-inning grand slam in his ninth career at-bat, one of a season-high four home runs for the Rockies, who closed to within 21/2 games of NL wild-card leaders San Diego and Philadelphia. Taylor Buchholz (6-4) got the win in relief of Elmer Dessens.

-at New York 7, San Diego 6: Carlos Beltran had five RBIs and Luis Castillo singled home the winning run against Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning to drop the Padres into a tie with Philadelphia atop the wild-card standings. It was the fourth blown save in 35 chances this season for Hoffman.

-at Cincinnati 8, Atlanta 7: Brandon Phillips hit a solo home run and a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning to lift the Reds, who overcame deficits of 3-0 and 7-5. Phillips had three hits and Jorge Cantu drove in three runs for Cincinnati. David Weathers pitched around a single and a walk for his 26th save.

-Washington 11, at Houston 6: Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer and had four RBIs, and the Nationals ended Wandy Rodriguez’s six-game home unbeaten streak. Nook Logan added a career-high five hits. Rodriguez (7-12) hadn’t given up more than one earned run at home since May 30.

-Milwaukee 7, at Arizona 4: Francisco Cordero struck out Stephen Drew with a runner on second for his 37th save in 43 chances.

-Philadelphia 5, Dodgers 4: Kyle Kendrick improved to 5-0 with a 3.46 earned-run average in eight home starts.
