at Denver 115, Miami 89: The Nuggets led by as many as 33 points in the second half in handing the Heat a loss in the opener of its six-game trip. Carmelo Anthony scored 30 points and Kenyon Martin added a season-high 20 for Denver. Marcus Camby added 21 rebounds. Shaquille O’Neal had a season-low six points for Miami.

Phoenix 115, at New York 104: Grant Hill made 13 of 17 shots and finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help the Suns win the opener of a five-game trip. New York guard Stephon Marbury’s father, Don, died at a local hospital after being taken from the arena by ambulance with chest pains, the New York Times reported.

at Boston 80, Cleveland 70: With LeBron James missing his second straight game because of a sprained finger, the Cavaliers couldn’t prevent the Celtics from improving to an NBA-best 14-2 only five days after handing them one of their losses with James. Ray Allen led Boston with 20 points.

Golden State 109, at Seattle 96: In a game delayed about 15 minutes when a small fire broke out on the scoreboard, Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington scored 20 points apiece in the Warriors’ sixth straight victory. Golden State is 9-1 after an 0-6 start. Seattle rookie Kevin Durant had only six points.

at Detroit 118, New Jersey 95: With Antonio McDyess in early foul trouble, Jason Maxiell came off the bench and had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Pistons outscored the Nets, 60-40, in the middle two quarters. Detroit won for the sixth time in seven games and beat the Nets for the fifth straight time.

at San Antonio 100, Portland 79: Tony Parker scored 27 points and the Spurs easily beat the Trail Blazers despite losing Tim Duncan in the second quarter because of an injured knee and ankle. It was the Spurs’ third straight victory and the Trail Blazers’ fourth consecutive loss.

Indiana 101, at Clippers 95: Jamaal Tinsley scored 10 of his 29 points in the final four minutes to drop the Clippers to 2-9 since a win at Indiana on Nov. 7 capped their 4-0 start.

Orlando 104, at Lakers 97: The Magic is off to a 15-4 start in its first season under Coach Stan Van Gundy, matching the best start in the franchise’s 19-year history.
