49ers roll past the Lions

Donavan Morris scored 22 points and Brian Freeman added 17 to lead Long Beach State to a 77-52 victory over Loyola Marymount in a nonconference game Wednesday night at Long Beach.

Morris made four of five shots and scored nine points to give the 49ers (2-5) a 35-31 halftime lead. He added 13 more points during the 49ers’ 20-8 run to start the second half.

His two free throws extended Long Beach’s lead to 55-39 with 10:17 left to play.

Shawn Deadwiler scored 16 points and Orlando Johnson added 11 for the Lions (2-7).

UC Santa Barbara 68, Pepperdine 57 -- Alex Harris made four three-point baskets and scored 22 points to lead the Gauchos past the Waves in a nonconference game at Santa Barbara.

Chris Devine had 10 points and seven rebounds for Santa Barbara (8-1), which won its sixth consecutive game.

The Gauchos were nine of 13 from the three-point range.

Malcolm Taylor led the Waves (4-6) with 13 points.

Cal State Northridge 76, Utah Valley State 64 -- Calvin Chitwood and Deon Tresvant scored a combined 16 points in the final 11 minutes and the Matadors won at home.

Chitwood finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Tresvant scored 14 points for the Matadors (6-1).

Utah Valley (3-5) had turned a 14-point first-half deficit into a three-point game, 50-47, on a Ryan Toolson basket. But the Matadors outscored the Wolverines, 26-17, the rest of the way.
