Assembly election yet to be decided
The election to fill the state Assembly’s 55th District seat will not be decided until 1,500 outstanding absentee and provisional ballots are counted by the end of the month.
Democrat Warren Furutani, a Los Angeles Community College District board member, won 49.24% of the vote Tuesday and Democrat Mike Gipson, a union organizer for United Teachers Los Angeles, received 38.42%.
Three other candidates -- Herb Peters, Charlotte S. Gibson and Mervin Leon Evans -- were much further behind, each with less than 6% of the vote.
