* at Minnesota 6, N.Y. Rangers 3: Marian Gaborik posted the NHL’s first five-goal game since Sergei Fedorov scored five for Detroit in a 1996 overtime game against Washington. With two assists, Gaborik tied his career high with six points, and he was carried off the ice by teammates Sean Hill and Keith Carney.

* at Atlanta 3, Ottawa 2: Todd White’s power-play goal 47 seconds into the third period broke a tie and helped the Thrashers stop the Senators’ winning streak at six. Atlanta beat Ottawa for the first time this season after three losses. The Eastern Conference-leading Senators fell to 22-8-3.

* Pittsburgh 5, at Boston 4 (SO): Sidney Crosby punched his way to his first NHL “Gordie Howe hat trick,” scoring a goal, assisting on two by Evgeni Malkin, and getting in a fight for his first time in the NHL to spur the Penguins.

* Montreal 5, at Washington 2: Cristobal Huet made 35 saves in his first outing since Dec. 1. Montreal won its first game of a season-high six-game road trip.

* at Florida 5, Carolina 4: The Panthers moved above .500 for the first time this season with their third straight victory. Tomas Vokoun made 29 saves.

* at Tampa Bay 2, Toronto 1: Vincent Lecavalier scored with 41.6 seconds left in the third period and rookie Karri Ramo made 31 saves for the Lightning.

* at St. Louis 3, Detroit 2: Keith Tkachuk and Lee Stempniak scored power-play goals in the third period, and Manny Legace made 34 saves to help the Blues end a four-game slide and end the Red Wings’ 12-game point streak.

* at Vancouver 3, Dallas 2: Daniel Sedin scored twice in the third period and Roberto Luongo made 33 saves for the Canucks. Rookie Mason Raymond also scored as Vancouver won their second straight game since Luongo returned after missing four because of bruised ribs.

* Phoenix 3, at San Jose 2 (SO): Shane Doan scored a short-handed goal to tie it with 41.5 seconds left in regulation and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all three shots in the shootout to help the Coyotes end an eight-game losing streak to the Sharks.
