The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is offering a program to accommodate Christmas and New Year’s travelers.
Rides will be free on all rail and bus lines from 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve until 2 a.m. Christmas Day and the same hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The Metro Gold Line will provide all-night service on New Year’s Eve to aid the tens of thousands of people expected to travel to Pasadena for the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game.
On Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, Gold Line trains will double their normal size and function on a rush-hour schedule, arriving every seven minutes, said MTA spokeswoman Gayle Anderson.
About 20,000 travelers use the Gold Line on a normal weekday, but more than 60,000 are expected to use it on New Year’s Day, she said.
The last train traveling from Sierra Madre Villa toward Union Station in downtown Los Angeles is scheduled to depart Pasadena at 12:31 a.m. on Jan. 1.
