Static over 9/11 radios

Re “Giuliani faces 9/11 backlash,” Dec. 19

Howard Safir, who ran the New York fire and police departments under Rudy Giuliani and now heads First Responders for Rudy, states that the 9/11 Firefighters and Families, a group working against Giuliani, is wrong to claim the emergency radios didn’t work in the World Trade Center disaster. Instead, he states it was only repeaters that were not working, thereby limiting the range of the radios in high-rise buildings. To me that sounds an awful lot like the radios didn’t work.

New York is full of high-rise buildings. I would assume it’s up to government to enforce the regulations requiring them. If the repeaters in the World Trade Center didn’t work, that’s a real shame -- especially after it had already been attacked and repeatedly threatened over the years.
