The Detroit Red Wings won the special teams battle and the game Friday night.

Kris Draper’s short-handed goal with 6:29 left broke a tie, and Tomas Holmstrom had two goals to lift the Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. It was their 10th consecutive home victory.

Draper scored the game-winner when he knocked Niklas Lidstrom’s pass, which was tipped by Lee Stempniak, out of the air and into the net to finish off a two-on-one break.

The Red Wings’ special teams struggled early in the season but have improved as the season has unfolded.

“We seem to be getting the pieces together,” on the special teams, said Holmstrom, who had a power-play goal.

“Special teams was the difference,” the Blues’ Keith Tkachuk said. “Our power play didn’t get it done at the end of the game. That was a winnable game for us.”

The Blues were 0 for 6 on the power play and are 0 for 31 with the extra man in five games against Detroit this season. Dominik Hasek stopped 24 shots for the Red Wings.

Calgary 6, Columbus 2 -- Jarome Iginla scored once and had two assists in his return to the lineup after sitting out 11 games because of a knee injury and the Flames routed the Blue Jackets at Calgary, Canada.

Kristian Huselius and defenseman Robyn Regehr also had a goal and two assists for the Flames. The goal was Regehr’s first in 62 games.

It’s only the second time in his seven-year career that Regehr has had three points in a game. The last time was in San Jose on Feb. 6, 2006, when he recorded three assists during a 4-3 victory over the Sharks.
