James holds off Haas by two shots

England’s Mark James won the Allianz Championship on Sunday at Boca Raton, Fla., in his first tournament of the year, closing with a four-under-par 68 for a two-stroke victory over Champions Tour player of the year Jay Haas.

James spent the previous three weeks skiing in the French Alps. “I came out here fairly cold from the winter off and only started practicing this week,” he said. “It’s a nice surprise and gives me a lot of confidence.”

James finished at 15-under 201 on The Old Course at Broken Sound, and earned $240,000 for his third career victory on the 50-and-over tour.

R.W. Eaks (68), Morris Hatalsky (70) and Brad Bryant (69) tied for third at 12 under.

Karrie Webb shot a four-under 68 for a two-stroke victory at the ANZ Australian Ladies Masters at Gold Coast, Australia.

Webb, who came from seven strokes behind Saturday with a 10-under 62 to share the third-round lead with fellow Australian Michelle Ellis, again made clutch putts to follow last week’s six-stroke win at the Australian Open with her sixth Australian Masters title.

A month after becoming the youngest player in 50 years to make a PGA Tour cut, 16-year-old Tadd Fujikawa shot a four-under 68 to win the Hawaii Pearl Open at Honolulu.

Fujikawa birdied two of the final three holes to finish the 54-hole tournament at 11-under 205.
