Finley, 41, signs with Colorado
The Colorado Rockies signed veteran outfielder Steve Finley to a minor league contract Saturday. He is a nonroster invitee at the club’s spring training camp in Tucson.
Finley, who turns 42 next month, has played 18 seasons in the majors. He batted .246 with six home runs and 40 RBIs last season with San Francisco.
He’s a career .272 hitter with 303 home runs and 320 stolen bases, one of only six players with 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases.
Finley has played with Baltimore, Houston, San Diego, Arizona, the Dodgers, Angels and Giants, making the Rockies the only National League West team he has not played for.

The Florida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that pitcher Josh Johnson won’t be ready when the season starts April 2.
Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn’t thrown from a mound at full speed since September because of soreness in his right forearm.

New York Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon is expected to miss at least a few days of spring training for personal reasons. He was given permission to leave camp by Manager Joe Torre and General Manager Brian Cashman.

Baltimore Orioles reliever Jamie Walker returned to camp one day after suffering a mild concussion when a line drive hit him in the back of the head during batting practice.
