Lemieux meets with K.C. group

Mario Lemieux and other members of the Penguins’ ownership group met with officials in Kansas City, Mo., increasing speculation that the team might leave Pittsburgh.

Michael Roth, a spokesman for AEG, which will operate the new Sprint Center, issued a statement confirming that meetings were scheduled.

Company officials declined to comment further, but a news conference was planned for today in Kansas City.

The future of the franchise in Pittsburgh has been in question since last month, when the Pennsylvania Gaming Commission rejected a slot application by Isle of Capri Casinos, which had promised to build an arena if its bid were approved.

AEG also manages the Kings and Staples Center.

The Ottawa Senators acquired center Mike Comrie from the Phoenix Coyotes for Russian prospect Alexei Kaigorodov.

Comrie is earning $3 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.

A former employee of a sports bar owned by the Detroit Red Wings’ Chris Chelios was charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of two employees.

Justin Blackshere, 17, was fired from Cheli’s Chili Bar several weeks ago. Investigators think he returned to the eatery and stabbed manager Megan Soroka, 49, and cook Mark Barnard, 52, shortly before their bodies were found Tuesday, prosecutors said.
