Washington State upsets Arizona in overtime

Daven Harmeling scored a career-high 28 points to help Washington State defeat No. 7 Arizona, 77-73, in overtime Saturday night at Pullman, Wash.

Arizona (12-2, 3-1 Pacific 10 Conference) tied the score, 67-67, to force overtime but was outscored, 10-6, in the extra period to end its 12-game winning streak.

Washington State (14-2, 3-1) had not defeated such a highly ranked opponent at home since beating No. 6 UCLA in 1983. The Cougars have topped 13 wins for the first time since 1995-96.

Harmeling made nine of 15 shots, including seven of 11 from three-point range. Kyle Weaver had 15 points and Robbie Cowgill had 13 for the Cougars.

Mustafa Shakur scored 19 points and Marcus Williams had 18 for the Wildcats, who came in averaging 87 points.

No. 24 Washington 64, Arizona State 53 -- Ryan Appleby made six three-point baskets and finished with 20 points to lead the Huskies at Seattle.

Washington (11-4, 1-3), a preseason contender for the Pac-10 title, had been one of three teams without a conference victory. The Huskies lost their first three Pac-10 games to USC, UCLA and Arizona, getting outscored by 12.7 points a game.

Jeff Pendergraph scored 18 points for the Sun Devils (6-9, 0-4), who have lost five in a row.
