Analysts say retail sales up 3.4% last week

Sales at U.S. retailers climbed 3.4% last week as shoppers redeemed gift cards after Christmas.
Sales at stores open at least a year were “relatively strong” in the Northeast in the week through Saturday, the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities said. In a separate report, Johnson Redbook Research said sales grew 2.9%.
