Canucks win fifth in row on road

Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Vancouver Canucks won their fifth consecutive road game Tuesday night, 4-0 over the slumping Montreal Canadiens.

Josh Green, Lukas Krajicek, Ryan Kesler and Jan Bulis scored for the surging Canucks, who have won nine of 10 to move past Calgary into first place in the Northwest Division.

Cristobal Huet made 20 saves for the Canadiens, who have lost nine of 13 games and haven’t scored a goal in two consecutive games.

The Canadiens have been outscored, 14-3, during a three-game losing streak and have failed to score an even-strength goal in nine of 10 periods.

Conversely, the Canucks have scored 39 goals and given up only 22 in their last 10 games, riding stellar special-teams play in their recent surge.

Vancouver has killed off 50 of 53 penalties and has scored on 13 of 54 power-play opportunities.

Edmonton 2, Minnesota 1 -- Joffrey Lupul and Marc-Andre Bergeron each scored a power-play goal, and the Oilers held off the Wild at St. Paul, Minn.

The Oilers, who have the NHL’s best penalty-kill unit on the road, held Minnesota scoreless in six power plays to end a seven-game losing streak against Northwest Division opponents.

New Jersey 1, New York Rangers 0 -- Martin Brodeur stopped 26 shots for his NHL-best eighth shutout of the season and the Devils opened a 10-point lead in the Atlantic Division with a victory at East Rutherford, N.J.

Pittsburgh 5, New York Islanders 2 -- Sidney Crosby and Erik Christensen each scored two goals to lead the Penguins over at Pittsburgh. Christensen also had an assist.

Columbus 5, Chicago 4 -- Jason Chimera scored at 2:31 of overtime to give the Blue Jackets the victory at Chicago, ending their four-game losing streak.

Toronto 4, Tampa Bay 2 -- Alex Steen ended a third-period tie with a power-play goal and Andrew Raycroft made 21 saves to help the Maple Leafs defeat the Lightning at Tampa, Fla.

Ottawa 5, Washington 2 -- Mike Comrie scored twice and Daniel Alfredsson had a short-handed goal and an assist as the Senators extended their winning streak to a season-high five games at Ottawa.

Carolina 3, Florida 2 -- Justin Williams scored a power-play goal at 1:47 of overtime to give the Hurricanes the victory at Sunrise, Fla.
