Out with the new, in with the old

I read the article on the future of furniture [“Shape of Things to Come,” Jan. 4], viewed the designs and tried very hard to keep an open mind. After all, times change, and therefore concepts, styles and methods will do so as well. Still, after trying to imagine the orange lacquered wood Drift bench in my home or any home, my imagination was stretched beyond its limits. This became especially apparent when I spotted the “Antique, Unique, on Sale” [The Scout, Jan. 4] weathered wood highboy at Dos Gallos and instantly pictured it residing in our bedroom, in all its old-fashioned natural beauty. Perhaps I’m just not ready for quite so much progress.
