Bruins pin another loss on the Penguins

Phil Kessel scored the game-winner in the shootout and Marc Savard had a goal and two assists to lead the Boston Bruins to a 5-4 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

The Bruins climbed back from deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 to beat the Penguins for the ninth straight time. Pittsburgh’s last win against Boston came on Nov. 1, 2003, and its last win in Boston was Feb. 8, 2003.

Hannu Toivonen recovered from a shaky first two periods to record his first win in three months for the Bruins.

N.Y. Islanders 4, Philadelphia 2 -- Mike Sillinger and Andy Hilbert scored 1:18 apart early in the third period at Philadelphia to help the Islanders end a three-game losing streak and hand the Flyers their seventh straight loss.

Montreal 4, Atlanta 1 -- The Canadiens broke out of their scoring slump, finding the net for the first time in three games, and All-Star Cristobal Huet made 44 saves at Atlanta. Montreal had been shut out in its previous two games.

Vancouver 2, Ottawa 1 -- Roberto Luongo made 34 saves, Rory Fitzpatrick scored his first goal of the season and the visiting Canucks won their third straight to end the Senators’ season-high five-game winning streak.

Nashville 4, Columbus 0 -- Chris Mason made 33 saves at Nashville for a career-high and franchise-record fifth shutout this season, and David Legwand and Paul Kariya each had a goal and an assist for the Predators.

Washington 5, Carolina 2 -- Alexander Semin and Chris Clark score two goals apiece at Raleigh, N.C., to help the Capitals end a six-game road losing streak. Olaf Kolzig had 34 saves for Washington.

Tampa Bay 3, New Jersey 2 -- Brad Richards scored both goals in regulation and had the only one in the shootout to lead the Lightning at East Rutherford, N.J., to its sixth win in seven games.

Toronto 3, Florida 2 -- Andrew Raycroft stopped 39 shots at Sunrise, Fla., and the Maple Leafs won for the third time in six games. The Panthers have lost five of seven games.

San Jose 5, Phoenix 2 -- Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists, and the host Sharks won for the seventh time in eight games.
