* at Houston 5, Philadelphia 4 (13 innings): Hunter Pence hit a home run off Jose Mesa on the first pitch of the 13th inning and the Astros took advantage of first-base umpire Lance Barksdale’s questionable safe call on a Carlos Lee grounder that tied it in the 10th instead of ending it on a double play.

* Florida 6, at San Diego 4: Hanley Ramirez, who didn’t start because of a tweaked left hamstring, hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in a four-run seventh inning.

* Chicago 3, at Washington 1: Carlos Zambrano (10-6) won his third consecutive start and Alfonso Soriano again hurt his former team with two hits and two runs scored.

* at Colorado 11, New York 3: Former Met Kaz Matsui went five for five and Ryan Spilborghs hit his first grand slam to lead the Rockies. Garrett Atkins added a two-run home run and had three RBIs for the Rockies and Matt Holliday added two hits and two RBIs.

* Arizona 7, at St. Louis 1: Stand-in starter Yusmeiro Petit (1-1) pitched into the sixth inning in place of injured Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks backed him with home runs by Chris Young, Chad Tracy and Mark Reynolds. It ended the Diamondbacks’ three-game losing streak and stifled a team that had scored 11 runs each of its last two games.

* at Pittsburgh 6, Milwaukee 2: Shane Youman gave up two runs over six innings to win his first major league start as the Pirates took advantage of a season-high four Brewers’ errors.

* at Cincinnati 7, San Francisco 3: The two last-place teams combined for 14 walks, two hit batters and a wild pitch.

* at Dodgers 7, Atlanta 6: Brian McCann homered and had three RBIs to no avail for the Braves.
