Search ends for victims of mudslide in Mexico
Mexican rescue teams on Friday ended their search for more victims of a mudslide that buried a bus on a winding mountain road.
About 500 soldiers and emergency workers had toiled since Wednesday, when the slide occurred in the southern state of Puebla. Officials said 32 bodies had been recovered, including those of four children, and that sniffer dogs had not detected any more corpses.
Officials said there were no more reports of missing people, but workers were canvassing nearby villages to be certain.
The bus originally was believed to be carrying as many as 60 people, mostly from small farming villages around San Miguel Eloxochitlan, one of Mexico’s poorest municipalities.
The start of Mexico’s rainy season has brought heavy downpours to many parts of the country, saturating hillsides that are home to farming hamlets.
People have been warned to be on the alert for floods.
