What’s a four-letter word for ‘swanky’?

We at the semiannual Television Critics Assn. Press Tour have traded the ritzy Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Spa in Pasadena for the posh 90210 Beverly Hilton. We like this.

Sprinkles Cupcakes is within walking distance. Maybe we will run into Paris Hilton.

In the meantime, we are at full attention at a PBS session about words, pegged to “Wordplay” and an “Independent Lens” documentary for the fall about crossword puzzles. We love words. Even more than Isaiah Washington does. On the Beverly Hilton stage, under the watchful eye of Will Shortz, the New York Times’ crossword puzzle editor, Tyler Hinman has just completed next Monday’s puzzle in 3 minutes and 52 seconds. He’s in his early 20s and is a three-time winner of the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament.

We have one word for Tyler: Wow.

Revolving executives

It may be the summer of love over at Los Angeles City Hall. But here in the 90210, it’s the summer of new TV chiefs.

Andrea Wong, formerly the reality guru at ABC, is now the CEO of Lifetime Networks. Richard Plepler, who was HBO’s corporate communications chief, is now one of its five leaders. His title is co-president. Ben Silverman, a well-known producer, is now the co-chairman of NBC Universal. Kevin Reilly, who was kicked out of his NBC presidential seat a few weeks ago, has just become president of entertainment at Fox. No worries. Peter Liguori was bumped up to make room for his friend.

Word.

P.S. This just in: Rich Cronin, president and chief executive of Game Show Network for the last six years, announced Tuesday that he was resigning from the company and would be leaving at the end of the month. According to the news release, GSN will find his replacement in the next few weeks. Will they be trendy and name co-presidents?
