BLANCHE DUBOIS FANTASY

Share

Mary Norton’s Moo Roo bags claimed a cult following among celebrities and collectors. With new backing and an even more luxe directive, the Charleston, S.C., resident rechristened the line under her own name this spring. She kept the heirloom look and playful passel of colorful feathers, precious stones and exotic skins and is adding a Melrose Place shop opening July 25.

From the plush mohair sofas to the chinoiserie fixtures, the Dorothy Draper-esque space evokes a Southern veranda. If the “Basta” stingray box clutch ($800) or the “Sceptre” clutch with cabochons ($3,000) don’t make your heart skip a beat, slip into a pair of Norton’s fantasy shoes, such as the black taffeta “Blanche” slipper ($525) decorated with a bow and a brooch. 8436 Melrose Place, Los Angeles, (323) 852-1800, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. www.marynorton.com

OPENINGS

Garrard We’ll have to wait and see if Prince Wills and Kate make it official with rings from this jeweler to the crown since 1735. Until then, Angelenos can dream over such treasures as the 104.5-carat brown “Great Chrysanthemum” diamond and the 40.63-carat “Heart of the Kingdom” Burma ruby, on view at the luxury brand’s first stateside flagship. The address is no surprise, given it’s hometown to the supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle, who bought Garrard last year. Just a gemstone’s throw from Tiffany’s at the top of Via Rodeo, this new space certainly received the royal treatment, complete with lighting by David Wilkinson, who also decked out Buckingham Palace. 202 N. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, (310) 860-8968. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. www.garrard.com
