* at Cleveland 6, Chicago 5 (11 innings): Ryan Garko hit a tying pinch-hit home run in the ninth and singled home the winning run in the 11th. Jason Michaels opened the 11th with a base hit off rookie Dewon Day that he turned into a double by beating Jermaine Dye’s throw from right. Garko followed with a broken-bat bloop just over shortstop.

* at New York 3, Toronto 2 (10 innings): Robinson Cano singled home the winning run in the 10th inning after Toronto closer Jeremy Accardo balked home the tying run in a wild ninth. Accardo’s meltdown cost Roy Halladay his 11th win after he stymied the Yankees for seven innings.

* Kansas City 9, at Boston 3: Leo Nunez took a shutout into the fifth inning in his first career start, outpitching 15-year veteran Tim Wakefield. Tony Pena Jr., who hadn’t gotten a hit since the All-Star break, had three of Kansas City’s 13 hits.

* Baltimore 8, at Seattle 3: Jeremy Guthrie pitched six strong innings and Jay Gibbons’ three-run homer gave the Orioles the lead for good. Guthrie wasn’t phased by three errors by his defense, holding Seattle to six hits and two runs.

* Texas 11, at Oakland 4: Michael Young had five hits and drove in three runs and the Rangers sent the A’s to their ninth straight loss. Kenny Lofton had a leadoff triple and three hits for the last-place Rangers, who have won nine of their last 14 to move within 2 1/2 games of third-place Oakland in the West.

* Detroit 1, at Minnesota 0: Curtis Granderson had three hits and Magglio Ordonez capitalized on a key error by shortstop Jason Bartlett with an RBI single in the sixth to end the Twins’ four-game winning streak.

* at Tampa Bay 8, Angels 3: Ty Wigginton went four for four to tie a Devil Rays record with eight consecutive hits.
