* Detroit 9, at Cleveland 2: Jeremy Bonderman (5-0) survived another shaky first inning, Gary Sheffield hit a two-run homer and the Tigers pulled within 2 1/2 games of first-place Cleveland in the AL Central with a second straight win after going 0-5 against the Indians. Bonderman gave up a two-run homer to Victor Martinez four batters in before shutting down Cleveland.

* at Toronto 4, Chicago 3: Adam Lind made up for a baserunning blunder with a go-ahead, three-run double in the sixth inning. One inning after he was called out for leaving second base early while trying to tag up on Vernon Wells’ sacrifice fly, Lind erased a 3-1 deficit with a bases-loaded double off reliever Nick Masset (2-2).

* at Oakland 4, Minnesota 2: Chad Gaudin (6-1) outpitched Johan Santana (6-5) for his fifth straight win. Santana walked a season-high four and allowed four runs and five hits in six innings. Gaudin allowed two runs in five innings.

* at Seattle 11, Texas 6: Jose Lopez had four hits, including a three-run double to highlight a five-run fourth inning, and Ryan Feierabend (1-1) earned his first career win in the Mariners’ victory. Victor Diaz had a career-high five RBIs with a three-run homer and a two-run shot for the Rangers.

* at Tampa Bay 5, Kansas City 1: J.P. Howell (1-0) allowed five hits and struck out seven in his first start this season. Delmon Young and Carlos Pena homered for the Devil Rays.

* New York 6, at Boston 5: Dustin Pedroia extended his hitting streak to 13 games in the Red Sox’s loss.

* Angels 4, Baltimore 3: The Angels won despite Ervin Santana allowing his eighth home run in five starts against the Orioles.
