Location frustration

Re “Liking the cameras and action,” Column One, June 11

It’s refreshing that the film industry has found a willing partner with this Santa Clarita neighborhood. If the same level of consideration were extended to the residents of downtown L.A., Echo Park, Hancock Park and many other areas, there would be less resentment of location filming. As a member of the Downtown Neighborhood Council’s residential-issues filming committee, I am working with residents and location filming companies to forge an agreement to solve the conflicts that have arisen in our area. The recent history of location filming downtown has been one of discourteous behavior toward residents and merchants, violation of permit terms and inconsiderate intrusions into the lives of our stakeholders.

I hope the industry will become a willing partner with the areas affected by location filming so as to keep the industry local while respecting people’s rights. This Santa Clarita example is a big step in the right direction.
