Vons store evacuated after cooler leaks Freon
Eight Vons supermarket employees were taken to a hospital Thursday suffering from respiratory problems after Freon seeped out of the frozen food’s cooling system, fire officials said.
The leak was reported shortly after 2 p.m. at the store in the 100 block of West California Boulevard. Thirty employees and customers were evacuated, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.
The eight employees complained of throat irritation, chest pain and difficulty breathing, Derderian said.
Hazardous materials crews from Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank were investigating the leak, Derderian said.
