Ornette Coleman, the “free jazz” pioneer, was out of the hospital Monday, a day after collapsing on stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee. Coleman, 77, won the Pulitzer Prize for his 2006 album, “Sound Grammar,” and received a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Conditions at the festival were hot and dusty. Authorities are investigating the death of a fan at the show.
