* Chicago Cubs 2, at Chicago White Sox 1: Ryan Theriot’s suicide squeeze in the ninth inning drove in the go-ahead run. Theriot laid down a bunt between the mound and the plate as pinch-runner Angel Pagan broke toward home. Bobby Jenks fielded the ball but had no play.

* Detroit 2, at Atlanta 1: Justin Verlander (9-2), who yielded four hits in seven innings, won his fourth consecutive start. He gave up a fourth-inning homer to Chipper Jones but did not allow another runner past second.

* at St. Louis 8, Philadelphia 3: In the only National League game, Juan Encarnacion hit a three-run homer against Adam Eaton in the fourth inning to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead.

* at Texas 7, Houston 2: Jamey Wright overcame shaky control (he walked six) to improve to 2-12 against the Astros. He was winless against them until last season. “The monkey’s still on there,” he said. “It’ll take 10 more wins to get to .500. It’s never easy against them.”

* Cleveland 4, at Washington 3: Victor Martinez hit closer Chad Cordero’s first pitch for a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning. Franklin Gutierrez and Casey Blake had singled with none out to bring up Martinez.

* at Toronto 11, Colorado 6: Frank Thomas hit his 498th homer and drove in four runs, and Matt Stairs homered and doubled in a run for the Blue Jays.

* Minnesota 11, at Florida 1: The Twins managed without Justin Morneau, who remained hospitalized for a second night after bruising his right lung in a home-plate collision Friday.

* at Milwaukee 7, Kansas City 1: Brian Bannister threw 39 pitches in the third inning when the Brewers scored three runs. He gave up six runs and six hits in five innings.

* at New York Mets 1, Oakland 0: David Wright hit a bloop double in front of diving right fielder Travis Buck in the ninth inning, driving in Ramon Castro.

* at Arizona 7, Baltimore 4: Mark Reynolds’ two-run triple in the fifth inning gave the Diamondbacks a 5-4 lead. Arizona, which trailed 4-0, has rallied from four runs or more down four times this season.

* at San Diego 6, Boston 1: Khalil Greene homered twice against Tim Wakefield, and Chris Young, Heath Bell and Justin Hampson combined on a four-hitter.
