* at Detroit 5, Texas 2: Kenny Rogers (2-0) allowed one run and four hits over six innings in winning his first home start since shoulder surgery to help the Tigers remain a half a game ahead of the Indians in the AL Central. Gary Sheffield hit a two-run homer. Todd Jones finished with a perfect ninth for his 19th save in 23 chances.

* at Cleveland 4, Oakland 3: Jason Michaels hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning and the Indians held on. Oakland put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth against closer Joe Borowski, but Shannon Stewart -- 10 for 20 in the four-game series -- popped out and Mark Kotsay flied out, giving Borowski his 22nd save in 24 chances.

* New York 8, at Baltimore 6 (susp): The game was stopped in the top of the eighth after a rain delay of 1 hour 25 minutes. The game will be resumed July 27 when the Yankees return. Andy Phillips homered and eight players scored for New York. Brian Roberts homered and Kevin Millar had a season-high three hits for the Orioles.

* at Minnesota 8, Toronto 5: Torii Hunter homered twice and reigning AL most valuable player Justin Morneau was 0 for 3 with a walk and an RBI as a designated hitter after missing six games because of a bruised lung.

* Chicago 5, at Tampa Bay 1: The Devil Rays’ Delmon Young extended his career-best 13-game hitting streak in a loss.
