Praise and gibes for ‘No’ to Fox

Share

I disagree completely with Scott Collins’ piece in which he said the Democratic presidential candidates were wrong to refuse to debate on Fox News. (“Vote ‘No’ on Snub of Fox News,” June 25.) Collins said that boycotting Fox would do a “disservice to all Americans” -- as if Fox were the only network available for Americans to watch. What about CNN and MSNBC? Or, for that matter, the major networks, which reach even more Americans than their cable counterparts?

Besides, as Collins himself admits, Fox News’ credibility is highly questionable, given the extreme spin the network puts on every story. It’s time everyone -- politicians, other journalists and members of the public -- decried Fox News for the propaganda machine it really is. The network is merely reaping what it has sown.

AVOIDING the Fox News channel in the Democratic debates is not even close to “shutting down a legitimate debate” as Scott Collins claims.

It’s more like avoiding the dog droppings on the sidewalk.

More than 10 debates will be held in other media, so voters will have as much information as they can get in our political process.

THE candidates’ refusal to appear on the news channel watched by more Americans than any other is arrogant, elitist, politically impractical and a clear example of bad judgment. With those traits, I wouldn’t want any of those people representing me. They have all lost any hope of getting my vote.

ANYONE who doubts why Democrats should boycott any debates hosted by Faux News should simply read some of the outrageous on-screen graphics Faux has shown in the recent past:
