Barry Bonds declined to elaborate Wednesday about death threats the San Francisco slugger says he is receiving.

“We’re not going anywhere with that,” Bonds said following Wednesday’s workout at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona.

The 42-year-old Bonds, 22 home runs from passing Hank Aaron’s career record of 755, told San Francisco’s KGO Radio on Tuesday that he has been receiving threats.

“There’s a lot of times I want to say I’m sorry to some of the fans. You’re only strong to a point and then you get nervous,” Bonds told KGO during a 90-minute interview. “I’m kind of standoffish and stuff and you can’t really explain that. ... I’m mostly gun-shy of what can happen. Once this is all over and done, whether I get lucky enough to do it or not, I’ll be able to release just a little bit of the anxiety and fear of what can happen.

“You don’t want anything to happen to yourself. You don’t want anything to happen to your family.”

Bonds has been closely guarded by a Major League Baseball security official throughout spring training for the second straight year. He is scheduled to play his first exhibition game Friday in Scottsdale against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Meanwhile, the Giants and right-hander Matt Cain, 22, were near agreement on a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year.

Cain led all rookies with 13 wins and 179 strikeouts last season, going 13-12 with a 4.15 earned-run average.

Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks threw nine pitches in the spring training opener in Tucson before being taken out against Colorado because of tightness in his right shoulder.

Jenks, who led the White Sox with 41 saves last year, will be evaluated today.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Bobby Kielty will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be sidelined at least three weeks, the team said.

Kielty was injured Sunday during a rundown drill.

Center fielder Mark Kotsay also is sidelined and underwent an MRI exam Wednesday. He has a stiff back, a problem that affected him several times last season.
