Mayor seeks delay of proposed police policy
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Friday that he has asked the Police Commission to postpone action on a proposed policy requiring officers who work in gang and narcotics units to disclose their personal finances to the department. The police union has threatened to sue to fight the anti-corruption policy, which it calls unnecessarily invasive.
The mayor said he wants more time to talk with union and police officials about the proposed policy. He noted, however, that a federal judge and an independent monitor have refused to eliminate the requirement.
