New privacy law trumps paparazzi

After days of printed photos and transcripts involving actors, athletes and others, Italy’s appointed Privacy Authority forbade publication of much of the celebrities’ private behavior.
The action followed the breakup of what authorities call a paparazzi blackmailing ring.
The ban threatens prison for up to two years, plus possible fines, for publication of “private facts and behavior that is not of public interest, not relevant to the story ... and violate the protection of the sexual sphere.”
