A man was convicted Monday of killing a Navy sailor on leave from Iraq and of trying to kill the sailor’s pregnant wife and brother.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court jury deliberated for about three hours before finding Raul Damian Martinez guilty of first-degree murder in the September 2005 fatal shooting of 20-year-old Osiel Hipolito. The incident was captured on video surveillance cameras.

Martinez’s sentencing was scheduled for April 19.

Martinez, 24, also was convicted of two counts of attempted murder involving Hipolito’s wife and brother, and one count of attempted murder of the baby. Hipolito’s wife was hit in the stomach and her baby girl was born prematurely with a gunshot wound in one leg. The brother was shot in the arm.
