A ‘McJob’ can’t be gussied up

Share

Re “Bought, sold and defined” editorial, March 21

David Fairhurst of McDonald’s wants to change the definition of “McJob” from “an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector” to “reflect a job that is stimulating, rewarding and offers genuine opportunities for career progression and skills that last a lifetime.”

This is one of the most ridiculous proposals I have ever heard. Nobody hears the term “McJob” and thinks, “That sounds like a career I want to invest my life in.” Unless McDonald’s would like to start paying its employees substantially more than it is now and offering them significant career advancement opportunities, it should leave the lexicographers alone and stop wasting everybody’s McTime.
