Senate aide jailed over loaded gun

A top aide to Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) was charged with trying to carry a loaded pistol and ammunition into a Senate office building, Capitol Police said.
The staffer, Phillip Thompson, told police that the gun belonged to Webb, authorities said. Thompson said he forgot that the gun was in a briefcase and that he meant no harm.
Thompson, 44, was jailed pending an appearance today in D.C. Superior Court.
