A simple swap to foster peace

Re “Catholic-Muslim strife still echoes in this marble forest,” March 28
As an instructor in religious studies at Cal State Bakersfield, I have a modest, ecumenical proposal with regard to the Great Mosque, now a cathedral, in Cordoba, Spain. Spain will agree to let Muslims have worship services in the cathedral/Great Mosque, and Turkey will allow Christians to hold services in Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, once the most magnificent church in Christendom, now a museum. Perhaps this gesture will lead to something far more important: peace. Let Christians and Muslims give peace a chance, if only in two sacred spaces, and perhaps from this small beginning members of both religions will find broader ways of practicing peace.
