Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger have won the Norris Trophy for the NHL’s top defenseman on other teams but the two Ducks on Tuesday became the third set of teammates to be nominated for the award.

Niedermayer won the award in 2004 with New Jersey and Pronger won it in 2000 with St. Louis. Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom, a four-time winner, is the other finalist.

“They’ve been part of that group that’s always in the position to be nominated because of their stellar play for a long period of time,” Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle said of his two stars.

Ducks center Samuel Pahlsson earned his first nomination for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the league’s top defensive forward. Carolina’s Rod Brind’Amour and New Jersey’s Jay Pandolfo are the other finalists. Brind’Amour won the award last season.

Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby and New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur are the finalists for the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.

Luongo and Brodeur are also nominated for the Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender and Canucks Coach Alain Vigneault is a finalist for the Adams Trophy as coach of the year.

Todd Marchant, who had sports hernia surgery on April 7, took part in the team’s morning skate before Game 4 and is hoping to be activated if the series extends to this weekend.

“Every day I push it a little bit harder and we just wait and see how it responds the next day,” Marchant said. “Every day so far, it’s responded well. Hopefully, [it’s] Thursday if everything keeps going well, it could be possible. If not, Sunday or whatever, doesn’t matter.”

Vancouver winger Jeff Cowan sat out the game after undergoing knee surgery. His status for the rest of the series is unclear.

Viewers who tuned in to FSN West on Tuesday to watch Game 4 had to share the first 10 minutes or so of the first period with the last few innings of the Angels game.

FSN West, which knew there could be a conflict because of a 5 p.m. start time for the Angels game at Kansas City, took viewers back and forth and used a split screen when necessary. The national telecast of the Ducks’ game on Versus was blacked out locally.
