Car veers off highway, strikes, kills woman

A woman on a pedestrian path adjacent to Coast Highway on Wednesday was struck and killed by a car, authorities said.
Her name was not released.
The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. when a car traveling east near Crystal Heights Drive veered off the roadway and into the woman, a spokesman for the Newport Beach Police Department said. She was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where she died.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, the spokesman said.
