Ronald Bangasser, 57; wound-care specialist headed state group

Dr. Ronald P. Bangasser, 57, a former California Medical Assn. president and wound-care specialist who founded a nationally recognized wound-care center at Redlands Community Hospital, died of cancer Wednesday in Redlands.

Bangasser, who was active in state and national medical societies for nearly 30 years, served as speaker and vice speaker of the state medical group’s House of Delegates and as president of the San Bernardino County Medical Society.

He was on the state group’s Board of Trustees for eight years before serving as president from 2003 to 2004.

A family practitioner with Beaver Medical Group in Redlands, he was the facility’s medical director and director of external affairs. In 1986, he founded the Paul F. Bangasser Wound Care Center (dedicated to his late father in 2005) at Redlands Community Hospital.

Born on Jan. 25, 1950, in Freeport, Ill., he received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in 1971 and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School in 1975.
