Freak flag flies in Portland

I enjoyed Chris Reynolds’ article about Portland, Ore. [“Wired for Weird,” May 6].

My wife and I moved here a year ago from Rancho Cucamonga, and we still can’t believe how lucky we are to have found our way.

We’ve done a lot of exploring, but we’re really just getting started, because there’s so much to see and do in this town.

In the early ‘90s, I visited Portland and was treated one evening to a tour of one of the weirdest places I’ve ever been.

Called “The 24 Hour Church of Elvis,” this was one woman’s apartment and a shrine to Elvis Presley and all things 1970s.

Of course, I bought a T-shirt and remember that evening fondly. I found that it has since closed. If it were still around, it would be the flagship of weird Portland.
