Chiming in with Marty & Elayne

The Dresden Lounge in Los Feliz was the site of dueling divas last week, as Jessica Simpson and Jewel belted out classic tunes with famed jazz duo Marty and Elayne Roberts. Simpson, who cruised by twice last week to hang with the veteran crooners, did a sexy rendition of “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” Jewel took a walk on the mild side with some Cole Porter tunes, as well as a breezy rendition of “Summertime.” The couple have been performing at the Dresden for 26 years and according to Marty, they’ve recently been hit up to do a reality show in the vein of “Name That Tune.” .... Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera took a trip to downtown’s Bordello nightclub to check out a show by the band Mr. Uncertain on Friday night.

Moving and shaking drinks

Check Yo’ Ponytail, the promotion from DJ Franki Chan that consistently packed ‘em in at Safari Sam’s on Tuesday nights for the last year, is on the move. Chan and his Iheart comix team are moving to the Echoplex (beneath the Echo), with the club becoming a weekend affair on the first and third Saturdays of each month (though May 26 is the kickoff). A wild show featuring Spank Rock marked Ponytail’s one-year anniversary. Plus, DJs Devlin & Darko are appearing Tuesday at a one-off party hosted by Chan.... And speaking of Chan, he’s among the entertainers lending his services to the Fair Trade Series, which debuts tonight at the Vanguard. All of attendees’ $20 cover charges will benefit Charity: Water, an organization that builds water wells in rural African villages. Also rocking it: Monsters Are Waiting, Guns N’ Bombs, J Davey and the She Wants Revenge DJs, Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin....We hear clever barkeep Bobby Green (Bigfoot Lodge, Little Cave, Saints & Sinners) is finally heading to Hollywood. Although Green usually does business in out-of-the-way places, he tells us his next one will be located in Hollywood proper. Details to come....More changes: The sale of Tempest means that the Anglophile-leaning Club Underground (a spinoff of the old Cafe Bleu) will be looking for a new headquarters. Underground has three more weeks at Tempest; no word yet on a new locale....Next up from the folks behind downtown’s Edison bar is Mercury Liquors, set for a summer opener.

Kick back and get down

The popular Sunday afternoon chill-out club the Do-Over kicks back into action this week at Crane’s.... Promoter Brent Bolthouse is hosting a party tonight at Area with DJs Samantha Ronson, Steve Aoki and pro skater Chad Muska on the turntables.... The transgender dance club Syren! is hosting a fetish ball on June 2 at Tempest.... Bumped into Luxelab salon owner Jason Lara at Beige, the Tuesday night club at Falcon, which just celebrated its eighth anniversary. The stylist tells me he and his partner David Abrams just opened Luxehaus, a Santa Monica home shop specializing in new and vintage finds from London, Paris and Barcelona.... And Motochrist guitarist Ricky Vodka is hosting a new loud club called Viva La Rock ‘n’ Roll at La Velvet Margarita on Wednesdays.
